Proofreading
If
you have complete technical knowledge of any one language then
proofreading is an option meant for you. Basically proofreaders
are required to completely polish the printed work to perfection
prior to it going to final print. They need to rectify all language
mistakes such as spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Some
proofreaders combine their tasks with editing or sub-editing,
that means making complete changes to the text. However, that
may not always be the case as proofreading itself is a specialized
task. Many people may mistake this to be a creative task, but
much to the contrary it is a technical one.
When
proofreading any text one is required to be aware of the proofreading
symbols that are more or less universally used. When going through
a course in the subject one is taught these symbols, apart from
that every employing publication furnishes the proofreader with
the lot of symbols that have to be used. This type of job maybe
assigned on a fulltime or part time basis depending on requirement
and amount of work a publication takes up.
